The Truth Behind Sauna’s Effects on Weight Loss

In most gyms and other massage parlors, you mostly see people stay at a small room heated to high temperatures. This is called a sauna. It is used both for recreational and therapeutic purposes, with most people using them as a relaxation tool that offers additional health benefits. Most of the saunas today are built of wood, often aromatic, that release pleasing aromas as they heat.

There are actually two types of sauna: dry and wet. The former may be kept at much higher temperatures of up to 121 Celsius, by keeping the ambient moisture down to nearly zero. The latter, on the other hand, are kept at lower temperatures than the dry sauna. This would prevent the superheated water from scalding the skin on contact.

When sauna was first introduced, it was primarily aimed for the relaxation of muscles and relieving the stress and tension that build up. But because of sauna’s popularity, people now notice their desirable effects to one’s body. Specifically, people began noticing weight loss as a result of using saunas.

Many people are still skeptical about the reported effects of sauna regarding weight loss. But the increased popularity of saunas as a solution for losing weight in all parts of the globe is based on facts. Experts said that frequent visits to sauna does indeed help in weight loss as the high temperature acts not only on the muscle tissues but also on the body’s fatty tissues.

Those who have tried the sauna method in losing weight have nothing but praises to it. But how does it really work? It is not true that the heat of the sauna helps in melting fat. Saunas, whether natural or infrared, are not able to melt fat with the help of heat. What it actually does is to help the body get rid of its excess salt through sweating.

We are all aware of that there are so many medical reports which links salt and weight gain. This is not fat gain but water retention gain. Once a person consumes excess salt, it is deposited under the skin and in order for it to stay non-toxic, it will demand water. The more salt is collected under the skin, the more water the body will demand and retain.

Regular visits to sauna will help you get rid of the extra salt in your body hence it will eliminate the water weight you have gained. So if you want to maintain the body you enjoy, you need to regularly visit saunas to keep the amount of salt in your body to a minimum.

With sauna, therefore, it is an effective way to help you lose weight though not in the regular way of melting fat. The heat inside the sauna will force the body to sweat out the excess salt and toxins and thereby reduced a great deal of the water weight. And when combined with a healthy diet and regular workout, you can now enjoy a new way of staying slim and healthy.
